KEDUDUKAN DAN PERAN WANITA DALAM GEREJA

Abstract

The ability of women has not met an adequate respect in Catholic
church. Church structures do not fully accept women’s participation. Actually this is
different from Jesus’ teachings and the tradition of early Church. In New Testament, we
easily find the relation between Jesus and many women. Jesus accepted and respected
them, although this attitude was not in accordance with his tradition. Moreover, Jesus
ordered them to share his good news to other apostles. In this context, women become
Apostola Apostolorum. In early Church, women also had roles in communities as
teachers and leaders. However, these have not been taken seriously by the Catholic
Church as some authoritative teachings and tradition. I truly believe that giving
opportunity to women in the church will give significant progress in the church. To
acquire it is requiring the shift of its male dominated structure and even culture.
