Abstract

One of the most interesting and popular discourses in the work of Plato, Republic, is his dialog concerning the allegory of cave. In this part, Plato introduced two things. The first is the entire experience of someone who has attained genuine knowledge in the light of ultimate reality. The second is the necessity of embodying this kind of knowledge in a real life. This article aims at exposing valuable polemics of two famous philosophers, that is, Heidegger and Friedlander in their readings of Plato’s cave allegory. The focus of their readings is the different interpretation of aletheia. In this polemic, readers will be assisted to recognise the extent, the depth and the interconnection of alétheia and the philosophical challenges which might provide worthwhile inspirations to the current philosophy. Also, they will be assisted to discover the relevance of this polemic in order to disclose the horizon of today’s life.
